RULES OF CONDUCT FOR LIBRARY USERS

We hope you enjoy our library buildings, and the materials found here. In consideration for the well-being and safety of others and for your own enjoyment and safety, the South Kingstown Public Library Board of Trustees has adopted the following Rules of Conduct for Library Users.  Library staff will enforce these rules.

1. Respect the Library staff, the building, grounds and all Library materials.

2. Do not damage, deface, destroy, rearrange, or remove Library property or exhibits.

3. Respect other Library users by not interfering with their ability to use the Library.

4. In accordance with the Library System’s Safe Child Policy, children under the age of 10 may not be left unattended in the Library.

5. Smoking, vaping and tobacco chewing are prohibited in the Library. Smoking is prohibited within 50 feet of all library buildings.

6.  Food is restricted to special events.        Beverages must be in covered containers.

7. Appropriate attire must be worn in the library.  Appropriate attire includes:  shoes, shirts, blouses, skirts, dresses, shorts and pants.   Swimsuits are not appropriate attire.

8. Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, and weapons are prohibited on Library premises.

9. Being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs on library premises is prohibited.

10. Animals are not allowed in the building, except for service animals permitted under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

11. Mobile phone use is restricted to the foyer and lobby entrance. Mobile phones should be set to silent mode.

12. Electronic equipment must be used in such a way so as not to distract or annoy Library patrons.

13. Sexual harassment including unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature is unlawful and not tolerated. 

14. Profanity is not permitted on Library premises.

15. Sleeping is not allowed in the building or on Library premises.

16. Sexual activities are not allowed on Library premises.

17. Solicitation is not permitted on Library premises.

18. Unattended bags and/or personal items are not allowed.

Anyone failing to comply with the Rules of Conduct for Library Users will be asked to leave the Library.  Members of the Library staff are empowered to enforce the rules and will call the police for assistance.
