Becoming a Licensed OWTS Inspector

Requirements

• Successfully complete the URI Cooperative Extension OWTS Inspection Course. 

• Download the South Kingstown OWTS Inspector Application (PDF), or call the Onsite Wastewater Management office at 401-789-9331, ext. 2258 for more information. 

• Submit completed Inspector Application with a copy of the URI Course Completion Certification to mloffredo@southkingstownri.gov.

• Receive confirmation of License approval from the Town of South Kingstown, which will provide access to the Onsite Wastewater Management Database, Carmody, for entering inspection information.

Additionally, the Prospective Inspector Must Agree to:

• Conform to the inspection and reporting requirements as set forth in the South Kingstown Onsite Wastewater Management Ordinance, SK OWTS Ordinance.
• Follow the criteria and procedures outlined in the "Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management's Septic System check-Up: The Rhode Island Handbook for Inspection."
• Submit a completed, thorough inspection report showing diagrams with accurate swing ties. Inspections should be submitted through the Onsite Wastewater Management Database, Carmody no later than 5 business days after the inspection.
• Sign only reports for inspections that they personally performed. Inspection duties cannot be assigned to others.
